Ubud Travel Guide: A Dreamy Paradise for Travellers

The Lush Green Welcome

My friend described Ubud in Bali as “a paradise for the soul” when he introduced the place to me for the first time. My vision of Bali included beaches and parties, but Ubud presented itself as the cultural, artistic and natural centre of the island. I eagerly prepared my travel items before beginning my adventure while my taxi navigated between the lush rice fields and thick tropical forests, which brought me peaceful feelings. Ubud presented itself as a place of peaceful charm rather than the crowded atmosphere found in Seminyak or Kuta. The atmosphere carried the strong aroma of frangipani flowers while the peaceful natural sounds blended into a harmonious symphony of calmness. This Ubud travel guide preserves the magic that lets you discover the most remarkable aspects of this captivating town.

1. A Dream in Green

Tegalalang Rice Terraces served as my initial destination. I reached the location at dawn when the mist was clearing from the valley and everything felt like a dream. These terraces which human beings carved into the hills represented a perfect union between human ingenuity and natural elements. I took walks on narrow paths while exchanging pleasantries with friendly local farmers who had cultivated the fields for numerous generations.

2. A Playful Encounter

The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary became my next destination after visiting the peaceful rice terraces. The dense jungle combined with ancient temple ruins and mischievous monkeys created an adventure movie-like experience.

My curiosity overwhelmed me despite the warnings about carrying food or loose items. The small monkey jumped onto my backpack to look for any food it could find. The monkey hopped away after a few seconds because I did not have anything to offer it.

3. Ubud Art Market

I experienced complete fascination as I navigated through Ubud Art Market because of its vibrant colors and skilled craftsmanship. Each handmade object at the market contained its own narrative. I purchased a wooden mask that served as a souvenir to remember Ubud’s artistic essence from an elderly woman who operated a silver jewelry stall. She explained that her family had practiced traditional Balinese design techniques for multiple generations.

4. Tirta Empul Water Temple

I visited Tirta Empul the sacred water temple because I desired a deeper spiritual bond. The traditional purification ritual performed by locals in the crystal-clear pools created an unforgettable sight. A local guide encouraged me to participate in the ritual so I submerged my head into the holy water. The experience brought me to a moment of peaceful reflection which taught me to release myself from the past while fully experiencing the present.

A Culinary Journey Through Ubud

The culinary experience in Ubud proved to be an adventure. I visited various food spots during my time in Ubud starting with Bebek Betutu (slow-cooked duck) at a local warung followed by fresh coconut by the roadside and ending with a smoothie bowl at a jungle café. The most unforgettable moment came when I enjoyed dinner during sunset while looking at the Ayung River as fireflies danced in the distance.

Must-try dishes:

  • Nasi Campur – A mixed rice dish with an assortment of local delicacies.
  • Lawar – A traditional Balinese salad with coconut and minced meat.
  • Luwak Coffee – The famous (and controversial) civet coffee, best enjoyed in the hills of Ubud.

6. Campuhan Ridge Walk

The Campuhan Ridge Walk became my final destination on the last day as I traversed its rolling hills and peaceful landscapes. The golden sunrise transformed Ubud into a magical realm while I understood the reason behind its magical reputation.

Standing there while breathing the fresh morning air I understood that Ubud offered more than a typical tourist destination because it allowed people to experience deep connection and relaxation.
